3-D football cake

I've been asked to make a 3-d football cake for a groom's cake. I'm not sure how to go about doing this. I thought about putting two halves together (using the wilton football pan), but wonder if that would work. With it not being level on the bottom, would it break? I need this to look good since it's for a wedding. Any advice you could give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You can definitely make this work. Just treat the two halves of the football as separate cakes. Place the top of the football on cardboard so you can use cake dowels placed around the bottom half to support the weight. Also, shave a little off the bottom of the cake, to give it a level area to sit on.

Good luck and don't forget to take lots of pictures, so you can come back here and share your cake with us.
