Beer Cake

I'm making my partner a beer shaped cake but what do I need for the covering of the cake?

I want a yellow buttercream covering for the top and a white buttecrem for the foam, but how do I do this.

I think I would frost with the base color then pipe swirls for the foam. I am thinking of merengue frosting for the frothy texture but you have to like that type of topping! Not sure if you are a merengue fan.
