My friend loves chocolate so I had to try this Birthday Chocolate Cake.

She will have a birthday party soon and I wanted to be prepared. And I will bake it for the birthday party because I'm sure they will love it as much as me and my kids did.

The recipe for this chocolate cake & filling, I tried from this page - best ever chocolate cake.

I filled between the layers with two variations of this basic buttercream recipe - Orange Dream buttercream on top and Chocolate Fudge buttercream on the bottom. So it was all made from scratch. :-)

I prepared the cake just as it was explained on this page with exception the baking part. I baked the batter in 3 single round pans instead of 2. I didn't want to cut the other one in half because to me its too messy (as is breaking it or cutting it uneven). All 3 layers were evenly baked for 30min in a 350F preheated oven. I cooled them before I put the buttercream on.

While one layer was still in the oven (I only had 1 round cake pan),I put buttercream on the first layer and put it right in the fridge to keep it's stiffness. The buttercream is getting really soft in warm weather. Also,I left the baking-bottom (from the cake-pan) underneath the 2nd and 3rd layer.I found it easier to flip it that way and to press it down more evenly, without breaking it.

So after I filled and frosted the cake, I took a little spoon and dipped it up and down all around the cake to have a spiky look. Its the fastest and easiest way to make it look cute without hours of work.

I put chocolate bits and a little coloring on top as well. I think however you like it, that's how you decorate it. Just for your taste and needs.

So after all this was done I put it in the fridge overnight.

It was the best filling/icing I ever made for a cake... It had a clean look after cutting the cake.It held its shape and it tasted wonderful. *Still make sure not to put it out on a hot day, because the buttercream will run*

To prepare the whole cake including the baking and decorating I would say it took me about 2 1/2 hours + cooling it afterward (over night)!!!

Now I've been baking since about 15years. Not professional. Just for family and friends and for myself of course. I'm from Germany and so the American baking is still new to me.
But I'm always eager to try out new stuff. The recipes of Easy-Cake-Ideas I found to be really delicious just by reading them so I had to try it out. At the end I was rewarded with a delicious moist birthday chocolate cake.
