Cake Filling Recipes

My question is, if I was to use one of your Butter Cream cake filling recipes, does this only go between the layers and I would also have make the Butter Cream Frosting to cover? Or could you cover the cake with the Filling recipe?

From the editor:

Hi Gillian,

You can absolutely interchange the cake filling recipes on this site with the frosting recipes, so go ahead and use that recipe for both filling and frosting your cakes. You may just want to double the recipe so you have enough to do both jobs.

I often make a double batch of unflavored buttercream, then divide it into two bowls so I can make one flavor for the filling and a complemetary flavor for the frosting.
