cake that smokes

by Joyce Clayton

Hello, I am working on a firehouse cake for my local volunteer fire dept. They would like to have a cake that has a building w/real smoke coming from it....HOW DO I MAKE IT LOOK LIKES ITS SMOKING?

From the editor:

Hi Joyce,

You can use dry ice to get the effect of smoke. You'll have to contain it somehow - in a small plastic container hidden in the cake where you want the smoke to appear, maybe on the roof of the building somewhere.

Place your dry ice in the container and when it's time to serve the cake, add a small amount of water to the dry ice. You'll have instant smoke!

Good luck and don't forget to take lots of pictures, so you can come back here and show off your masterpiece.
