Camping Cake

Prospector Tent Birthday Cake
This Camping Cake was an exact replica (from the cabin to the location of the trees surrounding it) of my 20+ year friend's cabin for his birthday. He married my husband and I last summer and I wanted to offer him something special for his day!
I made Royal Icing and pipped out the trees on parchment paper with the shadow of the Jack Pine trees (that's all that grows here North of 60). I let them dry for one week, they were very fragile and I was glad that I had plenty of extras. The birch trees were also pipped and I used a toothpick dipped in brown icing to make the lines on the trunks. The snow was made with coconut which went well with this old recipe I got from my ex mother in law. The cabin and other details were made with Gum Paste and painted with gel coloring and vodka.
From the editor:
Hi Lucie,
Awesome job on your Camping Cake. I'm sure your friend was thrilled with his cake. Thanks so much for taking the time to share it with us.
Regards,
Michelle (editor)
