Converting White Cake recipe to fit 9 x 13 pan
by Christa
(Indiana)
I would like to make a 2-layer cake in the size of a 9 x 13 x 2 pan with your white cake recipe. Would I use a single recipe for each layer and bake at the original temp and time, or would the cake be too tall once layered and filled? Help, please!
From the editor:
Hi Christa,
The original recipe uses a 10" round pan, which has a volume of 11 cups. A 9" x 13" pan has a volume of 14 cups. So to achieve the same finished height as the original recipe, you would increase the recipe by 25%. Use the same temp that's recommended in the recipe and start testing the cakes after 25 minutes in the oven.
Good luck.
Regards,
Michelle (editor)
