- bake the cakes and cool completely.
- trim about 2” off the narrow end of one of the bowl cakes.
- level the cakes and split the bowl cakes into three layers horizontally.
- to build the body, start with the bowl cake that you just trimmed a piece from. Starting with the smaller end, secure the first layer to a 10” cake circle
with a dollop of frosting to stop it from sliding around.
- use double-sided tape to attach the cake round to the board you’re using to hold the finished cake (try to have at least 6” clearance on all sides).
- continue stacking and filling the layers of the two bowl cakes (first one complete bowl right side up, second one upside down on top of the other).
- add a crumb coat - this is a very thin coat of un-tinted buttercream you apply to 'set' the crumbs.
- Your body cake should now look like this.
- refrigerate the cake(s) for at least one hour.

Cut Out the body

- take the round cake and cut out the pieces, as shown in the diagram below.
- take the tail section and bevel the edges a little with a knife to soften the ‘squareness’.
- join tail section to the body with frosting.
- take the leg section and slice in half as if you were layering a cake, to create two identical shapes.
- attach one on either side of the body, using frosting to secure.
- take the smaller head section and split horizontally, as if layering, to create two identical shapes.
- using frosting, secure a smaller head shape on either side of the larger one, creating a half football shape with one flat end.
- push a cake decorating skewer through the body vertically, with about 3” extending from the top of the body.
- push the head on to the skewer to finish your basic dinosaur shape.
- crumb coat the head, legs and tail.
- refrigerate the cake for an hour or so.

Make The Teeth, Claws and Back Fins

- melt about 1/2 cup of white candy melts in a microwave safe bowl for 30 seconds at a time, stirring after each interval, until completely melted.
- pour the melted chocolate into one of the squeeze bottles and snip off the very tip of the nozzle.
- on a piece of wax or parchment paper, pipe out about 12 or so small triangles for the teeth and about 10 small ‘c’ shapes for the claws.
- melt some green candy melts.
- pipe out about 25 x 3/4 “ high triangle shapes for the back fins.
- paint the two lady finger cookies with some of your melted green candy melts – these will be the arms.
- let set for about 20 minutes.

- divide the buttercream in to three bowls.
- Leave one white and tint the others medium green and brown.
- frost the entire cake in green frosting.
- using a a disposable decorating bag or a Ziploc bag with a small hole snipped in one corner and any remaining green frosting, pipe two large half circles on the top sides of the head to form the eyes.
- pipe three 2” long sausages at the base of each leg to form the feet.
- use the green frosting to attach one lady finger cookie on either side of the body to form arms.
- using some white frosting, attach three claws to each arm and each foot and some teeth in the mouth area.
- using some brown frosting, and a disposable decorating bag or a Ziploc bag with a small hole snipped in one corner, pipe some horizontal stripes on the dinosaur’s back, tummy and legs.
- using the white frosting, pipe two large beads of frosting inside the eye sockets you created with the green frosting.
- cut a Tootsie Roll ® in half and roll each half between your hands (like play dough) until you form a ball.
- cut another Tootsie Roll ® in quarters and make two smaller ball shapes.
- put one larger ball in each eye (in the white bead of frosting you just piped), as shown, and use the two smaller balls to make nostrils for your dinosaur.
- using the green frosting, attach the back fins in a row down the center of the dinosaurs back.
- mix the cake crumbs and some brown sugar and sprinkle all around your dinosaur, as shown, to complete.
