Do i need a certain tool to make buttercream?

I am a first timer for making cakes. I followed the buttercream recipe and it doesn't seem right. On all the cake shows their buttercream seems very thick and mine came out creamy and i don't know if i need a certain thing to make it like theirs. I NEED HELP!!!

Thicker Buttercream

Hi Madisan,

I think what you're describing is the texture of the buttercream when it's just come out of the mixer. It will be creamy and maybe even seem to be too runny. This caused by the heat of the beating action for an extended period of time.

Just refrigerate it for an hour or so and you'll find it thickens up nicely.
