The ultimate Flip Flop Cake
What's the story behind this Flip Flop Cake?
It was my sister's 30th birthday and she had been complaining for awhile that she was looking for a pair of sandals (flip flops) that she could go "brisk" walking in and couldn't find a pair. So I decided to make her a pair of sandals! It was one of my first times working with fondant.
I baked two cakes with small oval pans I got from my student kits. I used a cake mix for these. I basically cut out the shape with a knife, covered it in different colors of fondant and made the sole imprint design with a carrot cutter!
My flare is for the design, not so much the cake itself or filling (at the moment).
I've made many more since, but this one is still one of my favorite! The best part? When she saw the cake she couldn't stop laughing and then told me how she had just found a pair that day....and they looked exactly like it!!!
