Halloween Cake

by Melissa
(Texas)

I made this Halloween Cake for my nephew's 11th birthday which happened to be a Halloween theme.

This was my first attempt at making a tiered birthday cake and using fondant. I used a red velvet cake mix and filled the cake with my secret cream cheese recipe.

All the letters and cut outs were made of fondant, that I made with a recipe I found online. The grass was piped colored icing. The bugs and hand were not edible but added a nice touch. The fake blood poured over the top was corn syrup and food coloring and added a extra gross effect.

For my first go around it was not too bad and even better it tasted great and all the kids were amazed.

From the editor:

Hi Melissa,

Really nice job. That's quite the gruesome Halloween Cake.

I love corn syrup and food color. There are so many things you can use it for. It makes great blood, sauce for a pizza cake, ketchup for hot dog or hamburger cakes and much more.

Thanks for sharing your great ideas with us.

The more we all share. the more we all learn.

Regards,

Michelle (editor)
