2.level the cakes and split each into two layers horizontally.
3.fill and assemble each cake on a separate cake circle and secure with a dollop of frosting to stop it from sliding around.

5.refrigerate the cake(s) while you make the Chocolate sketch and musical notes.
Sketching a centerpiece
high school musical birthday cake
This is just like painting by numbers, only in reverse. You fill in the details first then the background.
- print out the sketch to about 4" high, using the picture below as a template, and tape to a firm work surface.
- cover the template with a piece of wax or parchment paper.
- fill in the outlines and details of each face using the black candywriter and a very fine artists brush, as shown (below, left). Think of the candywriter as a tube of paint ? just squeeze a little out and use the brush to move it around.
- Wait about 20 minutes before filling in with the white or you'll melt your details and they'll run together and you'll end up with a big mess.
- melt the candy melts in a microwave safe bowl for 30 seconds at a time, stirring after each interval, until completely melted then pour into a squeeze bottle.
- cover the entire area of the sketch with a layer of the white chocolate about ¼" thick, making sure that you go about ¼" beyond the outline on top and sides and about 1? beyond the outline on the bottom, as shown (below, center).
- Let set for about 30 minutes and very carefully peel off the paper and flip over, as shown (below, right).

The Music Notes

You'll want to make extra of these - they are delicate and you may lose a few when placing them on the cake. But that just means you'll have to eat them - how sad!
- print out the music notes to about 4" high, using the picture below as a template, and tape to a firm work surface.
- cover the template with a piece of wax or parchment paper.
- using the black candywriter, draw the wavy lines about 1/8" thick, as shown (below, left).
- let set for about five minutes then fill in the notes, as shown (below, right).
- let set for about 20 minutes and very carefully peel the paper from the chocolate, as shown(below, right).

Assembly
high school musical birthday cake
- divide the buttercream in to four bowls.
- Leave one white and tint the others light, medium and dark pink .
- frost the top and sides of the smaller cake with lightest pink frosting.
- frost the sides of the larger cake with two shades of pink frosting, graduating from darkest at the bottom to mid pink at the top.
- frost the top of the larger cake with the mid pink frosting.
- put your High School Musical Birthday Cake on to a plate or board now and secure with double sided tape to stop the cake from sliding around.
- using the white frosting and piping bag fitted with a star tip, pipe a border of stars around both tiers.
- using the darkest pink frosting and a Ziploc bag with a small hole snipped in the corner, pipe a dot in the center of each star in the borders you just piped.
- use the same pink frosting to pipe several small hearts around the side of the top tier, spacing them about 4" or 5" apart.
- make a 1" deep cut in the top of the cake the same length as the chocolate sketch and gently push the sketch into the cut.
- very carefully attach three of the music notes around the bottom tier using frosting to secure, spacing them evenly.
- using white frosting and a Ziploc bag with a tiny hole snipped in the corner, pipe I on the left side of each heart on the top tier and Troy in the right side of each heart, as shown.
- pipe a fine white line inside the edge of each heart to add detail, if you like.
- pipe best friends forever in a few places around the bottom tier of the High School Musical birthday cake, as shown.

You're done! Now go get a well deserved cup of coffee and sit back for a few minutes to admire your handiwork. Remember to take a picture while your masterpiece still looks perfect.
