I have a 14, 10 and 6 in. 3 inch deep and I want to fill between layers with cream cheese icing and then cover with buttercream. how much cream cheese filling will I need?
Also, how many cups of batter to make 14,10, and 6 inch, 3inch deep?
From the editor:
Hi Kelli,
The amounts given below are to fill a three layer cake:
8 cups for the 14" cake
5 cups for the 10" cake
1 1/2 cups for the 6" cake
Total of 14 1/2 cups of filling.
When baking cakes, I always bake anything larger than an 8" cake in two pans, with 1/3 of the batter going into one pan and 2/3 of the batter in the other. This prevents over baking and keeps the cakes moist. It also means I only have to slice one cake to end up with three equal layers. So the amounts I'm quoting you are for this method of baking:
3 cups batter for a 6" (baked in one pan)
9 cups batter for a 10" (3 1/2 cups/5 1/2 cups)
11 cups batter for a 14" (7 cups/4 cups)
Good luck.
Regards,
