Decorating Steps

Hi Venze,

The answer to that really depends on what type of decorating you're planning, but here are some basic steps that apply to any style of decorating:

1. After baking and cooling your cake, tort (split the layers horizontally) and fill, then refrigerate overnight for best results (at least a few hours).

2. crumb coat to set the crumbs. Refrigerate for an hour or so.

3. Top coat with buttercream or other frosting and refrigerate for an hour or so, until the top coat has firmed up.

Now you're ready to pipe, paint, apply fondant or whatever other type of decorating you like.
