how to make a log truck cake

(North Carolina)

I was asked to do a log truck cake for a little boys birthday. I have an idea of how it might go together, but I'm afraid that once I start putting it together, it wont come out right. Do you have any ideas? I need the front part of the truck, the log trailer and the logs in the trailer. I would like for it to be very detailed. thanks

Log Truck Cake

Don't be afraid - just begin. You can always make adjustments as you go. I never have a clear plan of what a finished cake will look like when I start - the best ones just seem to make themselves.

Some tips that may be useful:

Make the body of the truck only, from cake and use rice krispies to model things like wheels, cabin etc.

Scour the candy store/aisle for useful shapes and parts. It's amazing what you'll come up with if you just go with an open mind.

Use something like savory breadsticks for the logs in the truck (depending on the size, of course).

Use fondant for adding the finer details like grilles etc.

Good luck.
