MM FONDANT PROBLEMS
by MIA
(Florida)
I made the marshmallow fondant and followed the recipe exactly as instructed; however, when I covered the cake with the fondant it started to break at the top edge of the cake and it also looks kind of dry.
Can you please tell me what can I do to to avoid this or if I am doing something wrong.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation and help.

From the editor:
Hi Mia,
Here's a few tricks to stop your fondant from tearing:
1. only work with what you need. Fondant dries out quickly, so keep any fondant you're not working with covered in double layers of plastic wrap.
2. If the fondant seems dry when you start working with it, knead in a little vegetable shortening until it feels smooth and elastic.
3. Don't roll the fondant too thin when using it to cover a cake. You want a layer about 1/4" thick, to hide any imperfections in the cake underneath.
Hopefully, one of these tips will help.
