how do I just make a cake look pretty for my mom's party? nothing really extravagant, just something you would want to take a picture of before you dug in.

Hi Taylor,

Here are some simple decorating ideas:

1. For a chocolate cake, press chocolate shavings all over the sides of the cake and top with a ring of Ferrero Rocher chocolates, or other truffle-like chocolates, around the top edge of the cake.

2. For a white/Lemon/light colored cake, crumb coat the cake then cover the sides with either chopped nuts, sweetened shredded coconut or chocolate-dipped cigar shaped cookies laid vertically around the cake. Frost the top of the cake with lemon curd.
