Painting Fondant

Hello,
I'm trying to make a fondant covered cake for a surprise birthday party for a friend in a few weeks. I've been doing a lot of research on fondant and have found really amazing information on your site. A problem I am still having is what should I paint my fondant with? In my research it says to use powders or gels mixed with vodka. Is it ok to use Wilton's food coloring that can be found at Michael's or ACMoore and mix them with vodka? I know water messes up the fondant, so I wanted to ask someone before I buy them and find out they don't work.
Thanks for your time!
From the editor:
Hi Naomi,
The Wilton, or similar, colors are fine to use. I have used them both undiluted and diluted with a little vodka. Either way will work, depending on how strong you want your color to be.
Powder colors are good too. If you would like to try them, you can purchase them here
Don't forget to take lots of pictures and come back here to show off your cake when it's finished.
Good luck!
Regards,
Michelle (editor)
