I made this Pumpkin Cake for my son's school Halloween party.

I made two cakes in a bunt pan and layered them one on top of the other after trimming the tops so they sat nicely on one another. I used the cake I cut to fill the center. I iced them with buttercream and used tootsie rolls to make the stems and fondant for the vines, leaves and face.

I got a cheap bunch of fall leaves and hot glue gunned them to my cardboard base.

My son was so excited when he saw this in the fridge. I can't wait to deliver it!

Here's a hint. I put on layer of crumb coat hoping to use the curves of the pan to make the shape of the pumpkin, but I soon realized that I would have to make my own. I used another layer of icing to fill in the bumps, refrigerated until set and the third I smoothed the icing with and pipped the lines to make it look like a pumpkin. I used my spatula from the bottom up after coating it to smooth it out and round it.
I don't like to have to wait to do the steps, (ice, wait, ice, wait) but when I do.. I always get good results!

I can't believe you made this! It's amazing. For the Thanksgiving party I'm going to have next month, I plan on using your idea, but I don't know if I can pull it off as well as you do!

The kids loved it, I thought the teacher was going to cry when she saw it! I made one layer egg free so that one of the children allergic could share too! Thanks again for your kind words and encouragement!
