shortening? butter? or margarine?

Thanks for the nice Marshmallow demo.

May I know is it necessary to grease everything with shortening? is it alright if I grease with butter or margarine?

Hi Chloe,

As long as you don't need the finished fondant to be pure white, butter or margarine will be fine. Use oil if having pure white is important.

I think shortening is usually used because it's something that most people, here in the US at least, have on hand. But you certainly can use any of the alternatives above.
