Spaghetti Cake

Spaghetti dinner with Gonzo

I made this Spaghetti Cake for my friend's birthday she had no idea I was making it. I asked her husband a few questions about what she liked then I came up with the idea of Gonzo from the Muppets, eating a plate of spaghetti.

I did use a store bought white cake mix for the plate of spaghetti but I had chocolate mousse for the filling. I sculpted Gonzo from rice krispies. The whole cake and Gonzo were edible.

I used fondant for the spaghetti and meatballs and as the plate. It took an hour to roll out all the little spaghetti strands and meatballs.

For Gonzo I used gumpaste for the whites of his eyes and fondant to cover his mouth and nose. It took me almost 3 hours to pipe all of his hair for his body. Just before I brought it over to my friend's house I colored some piping gel red and melted it and poured it on the spaghetti to look like sauce. In total the cake took me 13 hours from start to finish including the baking of the cakes.

I am not a professional by any means I started making these cakes by watching the food network and thought I would do something different for my friends. My Gonzo cake is the best one I have done so far and I can't wait to make my next cake, I love it so much!
