Spongebob cake taffy vs. fondant

I love the Spongebob cake that you made! Just out of curiosity...how did you decide to use taffy instead of fondant for the added features?

Taffy Vs Fondant
by: Michelle (admin)

Hi Monica,

Great question! When I made the cake, I didn't have time to make a batch of fondant and let it sit overnight in the fridge (which is what I usually do), so I had to come up with plan B. I have a friend who owns a candy store so a quick phone call got me an emergency delivery of taffy. I chose taffy because I figured it would be easy enough to roll out and cut shapes from, which it is.

Taffy is great for adding two dimensional details, but fondant definitely performs better for 3D additions, like Spongebob's arms and legs.

Regards,
