Steaming cake decorations

What are the steps in steaming cake decorations?
Is fondant the only icing you can steam?
From the editor:
Hi Lorene,
I'm assuming you want to steam the decorations to make them shiny.
As far as I know, fondant is the only type of decoration that this method is used with.
To do it, hold a small, handheld, household steamer about 8" away from the fondant's surface and pass it over the decorations. Since the fondant becomes very hard to handle after being steamed, you should do this after placing the decorations on the cake.
Good luck.

Michelle (editor)
