Swim Team Cake Decorating Ideas

My daughter is on the high school swim team, and her birthday coincides with the end of the season. Most of her guests are from the team, and she really loves to swim. Any ideas on how to decorate the cake in a "swimmer" theme.

Hi Crystal,

Here are a few ideas you may like:

1. Use a blue frosted cake as the pool, adding colored lane ropes made from string licorice and starting blocks cut from white fondant or rolled out taffy (available in every color of the rainbow).

2. Make several different swimmers in silhouette - diving off the blocks, swimming various strokes and celebrating at the finish. These are simply made from dark chocolate candy melts, tinted black, and piped into the various shapes, using the chocolate piping method. When the swimmers have set, either set them on the starting blocks with a little left over melted chocolate or push them into the lanes until just the top of the swimmer is showing. To do this without breaking the pieces, make a cut where you want to place the silhouette and gently push the piece into the cake.
