Thomas the Tank Engine Cake
by Marie
(St. Paul, MN)
For my Thomas the Tank Engine Cake I went all out.
This was a combination of marble cake, funfetti cake, triple chocolate cake and pound cake. It was HUGE!
Made a single layer base (the grass) and covered it in buttercream frosting. the cave is made out of the chocolate cake (4 layers) and carved out to resemble a cave. It was covered in chocolate fudge frosting. I also paved the train track with fudge and made the tracks out of black fondant.
The 2 small trains were both double layer of funfetti topped with buttercream and candy and Thomas was made of blue/chocolate marble pound cake and decorated with star tip #225 to match Thomas' design.
I cut fondant accents for the face, wheels, letters, cave and tracks. Marshmallows on wires were used to make the smoke and I used black sparkly sprinkles for the coal on the top of Thomas.
I also made a small round smash cake that I frosted with white, trimmed with blue, sprayed with red on the sides and accented with fondant lettering.
Happy 1st Birthday Logan!!! Love Auntie Ree
