I would like to know:
what sized of pans are recommended of a three tier tilted cake to serve about 100 people?
what is a simple way of stacking these cakes? My friend's daughter is turning 16 and would like buttercream icing.
I would really appreciate your help.

Since tilted cakes are often made with double tall layers and then cut down, you could do this:
1 double tall 12 inch layer - about 50 serves
1 double tall 10 inch layer - about 35 serves
1 double tall 8 inch layer - about 20 serves
To get the tilted look, carve the top of each layer on an angle.
To assemble, start with the bottom tier and lay a cake circle that's the same size as the next tier (i.e. 10" round for the 12" bottom tier) in the center of the cake and cut out part of the circle so that you end up with a flat area to stack the next tier on. Be sure to use dowels for support and a cake circle under each tier.
