what can I put between cake layers?

what should I apply to the layers of the cake to keep the filling from penetrating the cake?

From the editor:

Hi Nancy,

I'm not sure what type of filling you're using, but here's a few general tips:

1. You can paint the cut surfaces of the cake with melted dark or white chocolate. This holds the fillings where you want them and adds a great, unexpected little crunch when you bite into the cake.

2. Use buttercream as the base for your filling. It doesn't seep into the cake.

Good luck.

Michelle (editor)
