where to store a finished cake?

Hi! I was wondering after fully decorating a 4 or 5 tiered cake, where do i store it before delivery? i know not out on the counter but do i put it in the fridge? it wont dry out there?

From the editor:

Melissa,

It depends on the frosting and filling you use.

If you have perishable fillings you'll need to store the cake in the fridge, which can be a problem if you're covering the cake in fondant. You can place the cake in a cardboard box in the fridge, which will absorb some of the moisture and may help prevent condensation spots from forming on the fondant when you remove the cake from the fridge.

If you're only storing the cake for 24 hours or less, you don't have to worry too much about the cake drying out. The frosting will protect the cake underneath for that short period of time.

It also depends on heat and humidity where you live. If you're in a colder climate you can easily store the cake at cool room temperature without a problem, but in warmer, more humid conditions you definitely want to store the cake in the fridge.

Sorry. I couldn't be more specific without knowing the type of frosting and filling you're using.

Regards,

Michelle (editor)
