cake mix

I am going to attempt to make this 3D sponge bob cake for my daughters birthday. I am wondering if box cake mix would be ok to use since this is a stack-able cake? Do you think it would be sturdy enough or do I need to use a denser cake mix such as the one they used?

Hi Kathryn,

A box mix will be fine as long as you support the structure with some cake dowels. Just insert five or six evenly spaced dowels in each layer to support the one above.
